Fallout 4 Dart Gun

Half-Life 2's Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator was never really a gun, per se, but you could certainly launch stuff with it. The "Nerd" version of the gun lacks the ability to pick up and move any and all household objects and instead just fires a collection of six blaster darts. A far cry from the original, but we appreciate the effort nonetheless.

Cyberpunk's Skippy Gun might be the most difficult of the Nerf blasters on offer. Typically, Nerf blasters don't have sentient AIs that project a holographic image of a talking bullet. The plastic version instead seems to have a little light bulb and an extra magazine of four blaster darts, which just ain't the same. Then again, maybe we're asking a bit too much of a toy.

What I was setting out to do is make the pipe pistol replica out of genuine materials. Since it is a crudely fashioned weapon, I also have been able to use only tools which you would expect to find in the The Commonwealth wastelands. The first step is to print out a image and try to scale up the dimensions. My first guide was to select 16mm steel tube for the gun barrel. This is a good size tube for holding a nerf dart, so I might be able to make a firing mechanism to go with it (it works.. but not very well).

The dimensions scale up nicely to something which feels about the right size. In the fallout universe it is a crude handmade weapon, so I take this as permission to alter some things, both to make the build process easier and to make a firing mechanism that works.

In my current design I have something which can shoot a nerf dart, but it is not 100% reliable and doesn't shoot very well. But I think just having a mechanism that can be cocked and fired without any darts still makes a nice costume piece. The parts all assemble nicely and I am at least happy with the aesthetics of the bolt action. The spring is not in the same position as in the game, but only a minor difference.

I have always been a big fan of the Fallout games, well to be specific: Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4. One of my favorite components of the game series is crafting. A standout iconic crafting item to the series is the dart gun from Fallout 3, a pistol grip crossbow that shoots poison dipped darts to cripple your enemies and the mutant creatures that roam the earth post a nuclear war. It consists of the following items combined to form a dart gun according to the schematic you find in the game:

All this being said I don't have a use for a poison dart gun (not sure what sane person would), but I do like the styling with the retro toy car and the idea of reusing items to make something useful. I also have a dog named Bunk (a small version of the dog companion Dogmeat) who loves to fetch orange ChuckIt balls. So combining these two things I made an instructable here to detailing the creation of a Fallout 3 Dart Gun inspired sling shot gun. This sling shot gun shoots small 2 inch diameter ChuckIt balls for your furry companion to retrieve.

Bethesda's modern Fallout titles are a great example of this. Despite the hundreds of miscellaneous and consumable items that dot the wasteland, few players ever use them. This is a massive shame considering that many items from each game provide massive bonuses. From skill-enhancing tools to crippling enemies with darts, here are ten underrated items that players should use in the Fallout franchise.

Every dart from this weapon will cripple an enemy's limb regardless of their health pool. Is a Deathclaw quickly closing the gap? Fire a dart in its knee to prevent it from running. Is a Yao Guai proving troublesome? Fire a dart in its arm. This weapon could trivialize entire combat encounters, which is likely why this weapon would return in a significantly nerfed state in future titles.

The Dart gun is a non-lethal weapon, designed to paralyze living creatures. The gun uses a powerful elastic cord to launch a dart, that pierces a creatures skin and exposes them to the venom that each dart is tipped with. The venom used is Manticore-venom, which is harvested from the stinger of a manticore.

The schematics for building a dart gun were discovered by Littlepip, inside the slaver armory in Old Appleloosa though she didn't gather the supplies to assemble one, until she reached Tenpony Tower. Littlepip's first dart gun was used to paralyze a mad ghoul scientist, but was given to one of his kidnapped victims. When Littlepip was shot in the chest by her second dart gun, she was paralyzed and unable to move, allowing Velvet Remedy to take her for treatment for her Party-time Mint-als addiction.

As you can see at the end of the the video posted below, the Croatian artist and maker becomes ecstatic after successfully testing his 3D printed Thirst Zapper, which fires out a NERF dart at an impressive speed.

One of the many reasons for the Fallout series enduring popularity is the wide variety of creative and retro-futuristic weapons available for the player to lay waste with. Most of them are not real, but by gumption this girl has made one of them so! This video will show you how to make something like, but probably not as good-looking as, this amazing replica of the dart gun from Fallout 3. It's made of pretty much the same materials you make it out of in the game, and might be the single best video-game-to-real-world prop we've seen. If you can make this, big ups. Seriously big ups.
